IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald Edward
Ruskin
April 30, 1933 – January 22, 2017
Donald Edward Ruskin, passed away peacefully and naturally with his son Glenn at his side at Tansley Woods Retirement Home on January 22 nd in his 83 rd year.
Don was born in Hayter Alberta on April 30, 1933. The family soon moved to Edmonton, having Don graduate as a Chemical Engineer. While degrees back then usually took four years, Dad took the five year plan, being distracted his first year with all of the bridge that he played. Over the years he became very proficient, playing up until a few week before he passed away. Soon after graduating he was immediately snapped up by C-I-L and spent his working career with this company in various sales and management roles until he retired. His real career was being a devoted husband and father.
He met the love of his life soon after graduating, Barbara Podgurney. They were happily together until 'death do us part', having Barbara pass away in May of 1999. Together they raised three boys, Jeff, Glenn and David. Don was there to tie skates for the kids in the winter, coach baseball in the summer and give them an appreciation for the outdoors. He instilled in them kindness and patience, rarely raising his voice, more coaching by leading by example. Don had a profound gift of being truly 'likeable', making friends quickly. One of his favorite expressions was that if you liked to play bridge and were a rum drinker you were in!
His true passion was being with his sons, especially on trips with them out west to enjoy goose hunting in and around where he was born. Some of his fondest memories were during these years.
Don will be lovingly remembered by his children Jeff (Debbie), Glenn (Bev) and David (Lesley) and grandchildren Brett, Brooke, Erika, Zachery, Jordan, Matthew, and Hunter.
A celebration of Don's life will occur on Saturday, January 28 th at 2pm at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd. W (one block east of Kerr 905-844-2600) in Oakville.
