Donald Lewis Kirk

June 11, 1932 - April 5, 2025

Don was born the 6th of 8 children in the small town of Exeter, Ontario in 1932. At 16 he was out on his own and apprenticing for English and Mould Mechanical Contractors as a plumber/steamfitter. An incredibly hard worker and driven fellow, he went from apprentice to President with lots of roles in between, staying with the company until he retired in 1992.

He married in 1956 to a lovely bride named Marion (Stanley). Their relationship spanned 63 years until her death in 2019. In 1959 they had a daughter - Lynda who married David Throop in 1982. They blessed him with three grandsons, Kevin, Joshua and Shawn. Adding to the family, Joshua married Cheryl (Vink) and to Don's delight, made him "Papa" to two wonderful great grandchildren - Isaac and Leah. They always brought a twinkle to his eyes.

Dad was a multi-talented man who could fix most anything or dream up things to build like a boat or a dune buggy. He shared his affinity for building and fixing things with family and made our lives so much richer through it. He was always one who delighted in giving gifts that would enhance our lives or just make them fun!

His grandsons saw him as a quiet man who constantly showed love for his family with unrelenting generosity. He loved to invite the boys down to work with him on projects in his basement wood shop or give a short ride around the block on the back of his Honda. As they grew to be men, he always took great interest in what they were up to in life. He even learned to use an iPad, cell phone and FaceTime to keep in touch.

Don loved a little adventure, fast moving vehicles, a good car and his treasured Honda Goldwing, which he rode until he was 89! Softening in his later years, he took on the care of the last two of Marion's Yorkshire Terriers, even moving into Walden retirement home with one of them! All the people and staff remember his sense of humour even in the harder moments of his illness. He was a gentleman though and through. He was very much loved and will be greatly missed.

Proverbs 4:8

In peace I will lie down and sleep,

For you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.
