IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald Bigelow
Grant, Ca
August 22, 1940 – May 28, 2023
It is with broken hearts we announce Don "Hook" passed away peacefully on Sunday May 28, 2023 with his wife and stepson by his side. He will be forever cherished and loved by his wife Jill, stepson Charlie Woodward (Lauryn Pittana), sister-in-law Joan Grant and many cousins. Previously deceased by his parents Millard and Mary, brother Peter, sister-in-law Sheila, brother David and nephew John Grant. Missing their uncle are nieces, nephews, their spouses and children of London, Hamilton, Toronto, Atlanta, Chicago, Omaha, San Francisco, Montreal and Mozambique. Don also leaves behind a family at Simgo Limited that will forever feel his presence.
After growing up in London, Ontario and following his years at the University of Western Ontario, Don enjoyed a successful career in sales, eventually earning his designation as a Chartered Accountant at Ernst & Ernst, soon moving into Mergers & Acquisitions. His greatest achievement would be purchasing a small business in 1976 named Simgo Limited that would soon change the beverage industry in Canada.
The friendships built during his time at Western lead him to one of his favourite spots, Muskoka. Don loved spending summers on Lake Muskoka and eventually winters in Sarasota, Florida where many close relationships were built over the years. To those who knew him best, his true passion was golf prior to his accident in 2018. The camaraderie developed at his beloved golf clubs in Toronto, Scotland at the R&A, Sarasota and Muskoka was extremely special to him. To Don, there was absolutely nothing better than playing 18 holes and trading stories.
Don's love of life, sense of humor and the art of storytelling were felt by all, and we shall miss that dearly. He leaves behind a legacy of strength and determination we will not soon forget.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at The Kensington in Oakville. A special thanks to Dr. Herag Hamboyan, Don's caregiver Beverly, nurses Florence and Ruby as well as all his friends for their kindness, respect and dignity shown in his final weeks. We would also like to thank Robert who helped care for Don following his accident in 2018.
