It is with immense sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father and cherished Nonno.

Born in Casalbordino, Italy in 1934. Domenico departed this life on the morning of September 1, at the age of 91, surrounded by his adoring family.

As a teenager he moved to Australia, working hard to create a better future for his family. He quickly adapted to this foreign country far away from his home, and took classes to learn to read and write in English. A testament to the kind of man he was - strong, and hardworking, and he carried that same determination throughout his life.

In 1959, he returned to Casalbordino to marry his beloved Anna.

Seeking new opportunities, together with his young family, he travelled once again across the ocean to another foreign land.

A reflection of their strength and courage, Domenico and Anna immigrated to Canada in 1962, where they built their life and grew their family in Oakville.

Domenico knew the meaning of hard work and sacrifice. He worked outdoors in construction in the harsh cold winters of Canada, before he proudly got his job working at Ford Motor Company for over 30 years. His meticulous sense of detail earned him a position as Quality Control Supervisor.

He lived life with independence, energy, and a sharp sense of humour.

He took great pride growing his beautiful flower, and vegetable gardens every year. He enjoyed sharing his love of cooking with family, and playing bingo with good friends.

He continued the Abruzzese traditions of making his own wine and canning tomatoes annually.

He was a proud Italian-Canadian with a fond love for both cultures.

He leaves behind precious memories, a lifetime of love and laughter, and a family legacy that will forever carry his love, his humour, his strength, his knowledge and the lessons he taught them in their hearts forever.

He will be sadly missed by all of his family and his friends in Canada, Italy, Australia and the United States, who knew and loved listening to all the many stories he told.

He is survived by his daughter and husband Giovanna and Albert, daughter and partner Gina and Michael, son and wife Antonio and Sandra, and cherished grandchildren Rocky, Jake, Domenico, Massimo and Cecilia.

After a life well lived we take comfort that he is now reunited in Heaven with his loving wife Anna, and cherished parents Antonio and Giovanna Moretta.

His journey was one of courage, sacrifice, love, and devotion to family.

May he rest peacefully.

The Moretta Family wish to express their heartfelt thanks to the kindhearted team from TLC Care, and staff at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for all of their care, particularly the kind and dedicated nurses of 6C where Domenico spent his final months.

Visitation will be held at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville on September 9 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 9 pm.

His funeral will be held at St. James Church, 231 Morden Road, Oakville on Thursday, September 10 at 11 a.m. with entombment to follow at Glen Oaks Cemetery, Oakville.
