Obituary

Our lovely mum passed away on Tuesday, December 29, one day before her 87 th birthday. She was a sweet, caring, loving mum (spelt the British way!) to both of us -- Keith Winn and Jill MacInnes; adored and adoring wife of Eric Winn; cherished sister of Glynis Ludley; doting nanna to Morgan and Tait MacInnes and Summer (Ramage) Winn; and wonderful mother-in-law to Jennifer Ramage and Neil MacInnes.

Mum was born in Liverpool, England, and married her high school sweetheart. In 1966, she and dad, with her two young children in tow, moved to Canada. After several years and as many homes in east Toronto, mum and dad settled in their dream home in Lorne Park, Mississauga where they spent 30+ years renovating, decorating, landscaping and lovingly creating their family home before moving on to Oakville in their later years.

With their combined skills in carpentry, painting, furniture refinishing, upholstering, decorating, and landscaping, Mum and Dad spent most of their time renovating their homes and tending to their spectacular gardens, including their cherished Old Mill in northern England.

Mum was a gardener extraordinaire more than anything, but she was very creative in so many ways. She was an extremely talented seamstress, making her own clothes, children's clothes - including her daughter Jill's wedding dress - coats, curtains, cushions and more. At nearly 50 years of age, she enrolled in the Fashion Design program at Sheridan College and sold out of her wool and suede sweaters at Toronto's One of a Kind craft show on the first day.

She also enjoyed and was talented at cooking, baking, photography, stained glass, and other artistic pursuits.

When they were not renovating or gardening, Mum and Dad loved to travel and enjoyed many trips throughout England, and to east and west coast Canada, Bermuda, Hawaii, Portugal, and New Zealand.

More than anything she loved her family, enjoying family tea with lots of laughter, and taking wonderful care of our dad, keeping him on the straight and narrow. Though she missed her garden terribly in recent years, she made many friends among the staff and residents at Amica retirement home in Bronte, where there were many stories of raucous, hilarious dinner conversations at their shared dining table. It is no surprise hers was the merriest and loudest table.

As there will be no visitation or service due to COVID-19, we invite friends to share a memory or leave a message here on the Kopriva Taylor site as an online condolence.
