IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Diana Bovey
(Nee Wright)
January 18, 1935 – November 2, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Constance Diana Bovey (nee Wright) wish to share the news of her passing on Wednesday November 2, 2022 at Oakville, Ontario, four days before her husband of 66 years, Ian Bovey, passed. She will be greatly missed by her children Peter (Sandy Reinhardt), Anne (Barry Bull), Jennifer, Pamela (George Jeffrey) as well as 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Born Friday January 18, 1935 in Montreal to Constance (Walcot) and Weir Wright, and predeceased by her sister Daphne, Diana grew up in Westmount, attending school at Roslyn Public School and The Study. Meeting Ian at a party one night, Diana, in total character, phoned him the next day and asked him to be her escort to the Debutante Ball. That assertiveness, one of her trademarks, along with her capacity to share her love, captured Ian and jumpstarted their life together.
While Diana traveled extensively with Ian after he retired, taking cruises, road trips and visiting friends, she was always happiest in one of her homes, be that on Brock Avenue in Montreal West until 1978, on Galt Avenue in Oakville, or at vacation homes in Siesta Key, Florida and, her favorite place, her family cottage, Glencoe, in Ste. Adèle, Quebec. Those places became gathering spots for friends, family and various clingers-on and were always open to whomever might drop in. There, these people would always find a hearty welcome and a seat at the table. Mum never held a grudge and always recognized when someone needed more than just a listening ear, sharing hugs and tears as needed. It is because of this generosity of spirit and care that Mum had such a large and far-reaching circle of friends.
Diana was also an active community member. This started with involvement in her children's schools but moved into going back to school in her early 40s to study Social Work, and then, when she moved to Oakville in 1978, joining the Maycourt Club. It was with this organization that she initiated CPR training for students in Oakville Secondary Schools after the loss of a dear childhood friend. Beyond her community work, Diana was a good Bridge player, a sometime badminton player and a sailor with her husband and dear friends in Oakville.
Most importantly, Diana was a great partner, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dog lover. She was always able to make each of her family feel special by honouring their strengths and celebrating their achievements. She could let her feelings be known with a single glance and you always knew what she was thinking as her eyes truly were the window to her soul. We will miss our Princess, Mum, and Nana but find some solace in the knowledge that Diana and Ian are together again.
A combined visitation will be held on Thursday November 24 at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville from 2 – 4 pm and 7-9 pm.
