IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Wentworth
Manbert
August 24, 1938 – January 12, 2020
Died peacefully at the Village of Tansley Sunday January 12, 2020. Predeceased by his loving wife Janet (nee Hendershot). He will be greatly missed by his brother Ray Rushton Manbert. A wonderful Dad to Terri Ann, Robert, Heather and Kim, son in laws John Szemeczko and Kevin Serniuk. Proud Grandpa to Michaela, Daryl Bruce, Hayden, Evan, Quinn and Madison. Great Grandpa to Aaliyah and Daryl John.
David was born in Toronto, moved to Oakville where he and his brother Ray grew up and lived a life of sports and discipline. He attended Appleby College from grade 4 until graduation. Appleby was a school that kept David occupied with a wide range of sports and the Appleby choir. David and his brother along with the Appleby choir sang at the Queens Coronation in 1953. David excelled in many areas at Appleby College. He was captain of his football team and a great asset to his hockey team. Appleby College was and has been a big part of David's life.
After graduating from Appleby David attended Bishops University in Sherbrooke Quebec where he was captain of his hockey team for 3 years running, and part of the photography club. He always had an interest in cameras and electronics.
After university he ventured into the world of finance under the tutelage of his father Ray Rushton Manbert. Although not his first choice he managed to gain some expertise in investing. After 2 years he decided to find his niche. He applied to Appleby College as a teacher. In his early start at Appleby he taught History and English. He then taught Geography and was head of the Geography department. David also coached hockey and football where there were many championships won. He was also the athletic director at Appleby College.
After retiring David and Janet moved to their farm in north Burlington where David had to trade in his chalk and desk for gloves and a tractor. David was Mr. Fix it. Being on a farm with lots of equipment there wasn't a lack of things to repair. There was never a dull moment.
David was a kind, generous, selfless man, who always put others first.
A family man who adored his family and cherished his friends.
David was a loving husband, father, grandfather (Bumpa) and great grandfather who will be deeply missed.
