IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daphne Alicia
Rutherford
July 31, 1921 – June 21, 2020
Daphne July 31, 1921-June 21, 2020, spent the last 7 years living with Wendy in Oakville and being lovingly cared for by her grand-daughter Miranda.
Daphne, the daughter of Dudley & Elizabeth Cheele was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Robert (2006), her brother Pete (2017) and son Paul (2017).
She is survived by her children Judy (Harry Cardwell), Wendy, Peter (Beth), Deborah and daughter-in-law Dianna, as well as 8 grandchildren, Jennifer (John McKinnell), Greg Huckle (Tamara), Matthew Cardwell (Adrienne), Miranda Cardoso (Lee Yesford), Sara Ainslie, Steven (Melissa), Adam (Kimberley) and Andrew (Jennifer Merritt) Rutherford as well as 12 great grandchildren Rhys and Grady McKinnell, Grayson, William and Sydney Huckle, Summer Cardwell, Jesse, Justin and Selina Cardoso, Tate Rutherford, Sophia and Logan Rutherford and 1 great great grandchild, Julian Cardoso.
Daphne was born in Toronto and moved to Elora where she met Robert (Bob) while making munitions during WWII. She was a long-time resident of London and spent many happy winters in Florida. Daphne and Bob enjoyed camping and road trips and one of her happiest memories was travelling to Newfoundland and Labrador and exploring Canada. Her longevity stemmed from her strong physical nature, swimming, walking and bike riding, and was counterbalanced by her faith (she was a 70-year member of the Catholic Women's League) as well as her interest in absolutely everything.
Special thanks go to Jackie and all the staff at LHIN and Acclaim Health who supported Daphne over the past few years.
Funeral and interment will be at a later date. Daphne was very generous both to her family and to many charities. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul or a charity of your choice.
