Thorpe
October 4, 1933 – January 31, 2026
Memorial Service
St. Joseph’s Conference Centre
Starts at 11:00 am (Eastern time)
Cynthia Anne Thorpe passed away at the age of 92, in Oakville, Ontario
Cynthia is survived by her four sons and daughters in law, David and Susan, John and Evangeline, Andy and Genevieve and Rob and Dianne, as well as her 7 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick, her twin sisters, Pamela and Pauline and her granddaughter, Allison.
Cynthia was born in Vancouver and later spent a number of happy years growing up in Winnipeg, before returning to Vancouver. She graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Social Work. After University, Cynthia worked for many years with the Children’s Aid Society in BC, married Fred, and had 4 sons! In 1966, Fred’s work took the young family initially to Scarborough and a few years later, to Oakville where they remained for over 50 years. Mom worked for many years with the Arthritis Society of Ontario, later joining Fred as a Registered Insurance broker when they purchased Utter Morris Insurance Brokers.
Cynthia had a wonderful ability to meet people and was loyal to her large circle of friends. She had an innate ability to remember all of their phone numbers. In the last few weeks as she reached out to many of them, she would rhyme off their phone number from heart.
She was an avid tennis player and played competitively from an early age and continued playing into her eighties.
Mum was the glue that held the extended family together and ensured we all stayed in touch. Sunday roast beef dinners with Yorkshire pudding was a favourite.
Her kindness, wisdom, generosity and sense of humour will be missed by all her knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28 starting at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph’s Conference Centre, 300 River Oaks Blvd. East, (corner of Trafalgar Road) in Oakville.
Reception to follow.
