Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Christine Slattery (née Silbernagel) on April 20, 2025. Christine, known to her family as Ina, was born in Munich, Germany, on July 24, 1959. She emigrated to Canada in the early 1980s, living first in New Brunswick and then in Ontario. After studying forestry, Christine spent her career working at Klökner-Moeller and, in her later years, as an independent translator of technical and medical texts.

Christine was generous to a fault and loved to entertain her friends. Her Christmas parties especially were always a highlight, not least for the hundred and hundreds of German Christmas cookies she would bake every year.  Her love of animals extended not only to her beloved cats, but also to the wildlife in her yard, especially to the racoon family that lives under her deck.

But what made Christine extraordinary was her ability to retain just about everything she had ever read … and she read voraciously. She was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge, ranging from history to music, literature to modern-day politics. Her deep and meaningful conversations will very much be missed.

Christine is predeceased by her husband, Graham, and survived by her stepmother, Brigitte, her sisters, Katja and Lexi, and her sister-in-law, Miriam. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 24th from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. at Pasquale's Trattoria, 50 Lakeshore Rd. West in Oakville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oakville Humane Society or Carlo Fidani Cancer Centre .
