Obituary

Peacefully on Thursday October 16, 2025 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital at the age of 96. Herb, beloved husband of Beverly. Loving father to Diane and her husband Salvatore Cavaricci, and Patricia (Patti) Kent. Dear grandfather of Wendy Zadorozny (Alexander Chun), Erin Zadorozny (Paul Makhoul), Leah Cavaricci, Laura Switzer (Ryan), and Kevin Kent (Kassidy Rondeau). Proud great-grandfather of Tabitha, Robert, Aria, Alexander, Owen, and Emmett.

Born to Vernita and Cecil Shepherd on September 15, 1929 in Vancouver, B.C, Herb grew up there and enjoyed childhood summers with his sister Barbara on Camano Island in Puget Sound, WA. Herb trained as a Naval Reservist and worked various summer jobs to finance his Commerce Degree at the University of British Colombia. He loved team sculling out of the HMCS Discovery "Stone Ship." It was there that he met Beverly at a Tri-service Ball and, a year later in 1956, they married and have been together for 69 years. In 1966, Imperial Oil transferred Herb to Toronto, so he, Beverly and their two daughters headed east. Herb entered the computer programming field and spent the next 20 years taking night courses to stay ahead of the curve. He finished his career by launching his own company programming for the barter and real estate industries. Herb always managed to balance his work, family, and hobbies. His runabout boat allowed him to share his time and love of the outdoors with his children. Family vacations were always a priority. He co-founded the Bayview Village Tennis Club and served as president. When empty-nesters, Herb and Beverly continued their travels across the globe. In 2012, they moved to Oakville, coming full circle from their first meeting as they moved into the aptly named "Stoneboat Quay" condominium on Bronte Harbour. Herb was truly a wonderful family man and friend who lived his life with high moral standards and an uplifting sense of humour.

Private interment. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated.
