The family of Catherine Rose Kenney (nee Bauer) of Oakville ON and formerly of Montreal, sadly announce her peaceful passing March 21, 2013 at the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Catherine was born on December 10, 1920 in Sydney Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late Harry and Catherine Bauer. In 1944 she married James Francis Kenney, also of Sydney; they came to Montreal where they raised their family and made many lifelong friends. In retirement, Jim and Cathy moved to Oakville in 1988. For 25 years they spent enjoyable winters in Singer Island, Florida. Both Cathy and Jim were avid bridge players and organized many bridge clubs. Cathy was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University (1942) and did her dietetic internship at St Michael's Hospital Toronto. In addition to raising the family, Cathy and Jim gave their time and talent to the church and many charitable undertakings in Montreal, Oakville and Singer Island.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Jim; brothers Owen, Merchant and Mgsr Cyril; sisters Mary Saunders and Barbara Brophy. Cathy is survived by her seven children Barbara (Lawrence) MacPherson, Ben Eoin, Nova Scotia; Ann (late Victor Lee) Vancouver; John, Toronto; Patricia, Toronto; Maureen, Oakville; Sharon (Keith) Schnarr, Gadshill Station, Ontario; Kevin (Laura), Burlington Ontario.
In accordance with Cathy's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 1150 Monks Passage, Oakville on Tuesday, March 26 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow in the church hall.
