(Chuck) Gonsalves
June 22, 1932 – May 3, 2023
Carlos Roberto (Chuck) Gonsalves, 90, of Oakville Ontario passed away peacefully on May 3 rd , 2023 at Sunrise Retirement Home.
Chuck was born in Tsing Tao, China on June 22 nd , 1932. Tsing Tao had a significant German community at the time and Chuck spent his early school years attending the German school system as he was raised by his German grandmother. On February 4 th , 1961 he married Marie Camille Barros in Hong Kong and for the next 9 years, Marie and Chuck built their family of six children. With 5 children under the age of 7, Chuck and Marie transported the family to Toronto seeking a better life and future for their children. Chuck enjoyed nature and loved to hunt and fish. Saturday mornings were spent on the golf course followed by afternoons of television watching to recover. National Geographic programs, sports channels and the food network were among his favourites. Chuck was known for his cooking and many friends and family enjoyed the meals he prepared. Chuck also loved to travel and was very proud of the world map in his den dotted with pins highlighting the locations that he and Marie enjoyed together. Chuck was a man of few words, but on occasion, he would indulge in story telling for anyone who would listen.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marie Camille; his 6 children, Carol McGlogan (Rod McKeown), Michelle Heaphy, Anne Lovegrove (David Lovegrove), Elizabeth Finch (Rob Finch), Carlos Gonsalves (Elizabeth Gonsalves), and John Gonsalves (Lianne Gonsalves). Survived also by his 12 grandchildren: Rachel McGlogan, Sean McGlogan, Evan Heaphy, Nolan Lovegrove, Owen Lovegrove, Zachery Finch, Jennifer Finch, Connor Gonsalves, Ivy Gonsalves, Cole Gonsalves, Elle Gonsalves and Tess Gonsalves. Chuck was predeceased by his parents Augusto Gonsalves and Anna Rosa Dold.
A funeral service followed by a reception will occur on May 18th at 10:30 am at St. Andrews Catholic Church on 47 Reynolds Street in Oakville.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society .
