It is with great sadness that Frank, Justin and Diandra announce the passing of their dearly beloved wife and mother at home on Wednesday evening. She lived her life to the fullest, quietly and valiantly dealing with Multiple Myeloma for the past 3 years. Carrie touched the hearts of everyone who had the good fortune to meet her. She will be missed by so many, including her mother Patricia Tomlin, and her sisters Pat (Brian) Lytle, Charlene (Bill) Cuff, brother Merv (Joan) Tomlin, mother-in-law Rosa Guglielmello, brother-in-law Gino and all her aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father Rev. Charles William Tomlin and father-in-law Guiseppe Guglielmello. She had the wonderful capacity to form the deepest and warmest of friendships with so many people. She will always be remembered for her boundless energy, kindness, beauty and selflessness, and for bringing so many people together in the wonderfully warm home she made for her family. After graduation from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music, Carrie joined the Canadian Opera Company and performed as a lyric soprano in many roles in the 1970s and 1980s including Lucia and Violetta. She also performed at Stratford in Candida and Pirates of Penzance. One of her many reviews noted the beauty of her voice, unique theatrical talents and pronounced her as one of Canada's brightest young singers. When her children arrived, she continued in the musical world teaching voice and piano, and was so proud of the accomplishments of her students who have performed around the world. Additionally, she was an examiner with the Royal Conservatory of Music where she delighted in finding new talent across Canada. Here in Oakville, Carrie volunteered weekly at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in the Transitional Care Unit. She was the official leader of the Ladies Lunch Club. In 2003 she was instrumental in establishing the Helen Simmie Godden Memorial Opera Scholarship in honour of her lifelong friend and teacher. The scholarship is dedicated to University of Toronto students who are pursuing a career in opera. Donations can be made to The University of Toronto Faculty of Music "For the Helen Simmie Godden Scholarship" 80 Queens Park, Toronto Ontario M5S 2C5. Visitation will be held at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville from 6-9pm Friday. A celebration of Carrie's life will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 1:00 p.m., at St. Paul's United Church, 454 Rebecca Street, Oakville.
