Eugene Robert (Bob) Chouinard passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on a beautiful and sunny Tuesday May 20th, 2025, three weeks shy of his 94th birthday at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Upon Bob's death, the Fates promptly delivered three, rain-soaked days of mourning across the GTA.
Our beloved Bob was born on June 8th,1931 to Kathleen (nee Smith) and Gene Chouinard in Campbell's Bay, Quebec. He grew up in Perth, Ontario establishing early and enduring friendships. Bob was an avid athlete, in 1950, he went to Clarkson University in Potsdam New York on a full hockey scholarship and was Captain of the Golden Knights Hockey Team and graduated in 1954. He loved to play sports as well as watch and follow his favourite teams and players. He loved to golf and often played 36 holes a weekend at the Beaconsfield Golf Club, and he was also an avid squash player where he played for many years at the West Island Squash and Tennis Club in Montreal. In winters, Bob often took his family skiing across the Laurentians and Eastern Townships. Every June, Bob would take his three sons and their friends on their annual fishing trip to the mighty Madawaska River where lifelong memories were made. Bob made friends easily and kept lasting relationships with many people over the years.
Bob worked his entire career in the pharmaceutical industry. His first role as a pharmaceutical representative was in Windsor. He was so excited when he first drove to Windsor, he could see the great city skyline emerge in the distance. However, he was stopped by the river and realized he was seeing Detroit. Windsor was an amazing experience for Bob as it was here, he met his wonderful wife Monica (Mona) Guiry and they were married for 67 years. They made their vows to one another on October 26th,1957.
Bob and Mona had five children. Mark was the first to be born in1958. Bob was promoted and they moved to London, Ontario where in 1960 Jamie was born. Promoted again, they moved to Montreal where in 1963 Baby John (deceased) was born. In 1965, Bob, being promoted once again, relocated the family to Toronto where Mary was born. Another promotion sent the family back to Montreal, where Robert Emmett was born in 1970. The family grew and life gave more than it took for which we were all thankful.
Bob completed his career as President of Beecham Canada and in his retirement, he and Mona moved to Oakville in 1998. During retirement, Mona and Bob divided their time between their residences in Oakville, and in Kincardine on the beautiful shores of Lake Huron, frequently hosting friends and family. Bob loved to drive his convertible and would often teach his grandchildren how to drive standard. Every winter, they made their way to Florida, where friends and family would often gather to enjoy the experiences Bob and Mona provided.
Bob was a true gentleman in all sense of the word. He loved nothing more than his family and friends and was always asking, "When are you coming for a visit?" He will be dearly missed.
Bob will always be cherished by his family. His wife Mona, children Mark (Robin), Jamie (Maxine, deceased), Baby John (deceased), Mary (Barry), Rob (Tamara). Grandchildren, Brooke (Geoff), Brendan (Mandy), Max (Natalie), Anica (Aidan), Monica, Kit, John Emmett, Katherine and Ella. Great grandchildren, Elliott, Ivy, Mara and Jamie. Sister Nan (Vic, deceased) Uzbalis and many nieces and nephews. And his beloved pet dogs (deceased), Boots (cat), Chico, Laddie, Teddy and Riley.
Bob had a strong Faith in God and in Jesus Christ and drew on the strength his faith provided him.
