Barbara Jane Fraser (nee Mason)

Nov 4, 1953 – Nov 26, 2023

It is with sorrow that we confirm the passing of Barbara Fraser (nee Mason) at Rapelje Lodge after a lengthy, difficult battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Barb was born & raised in Oakville, ON (with a memorable five year stint during her formative years in West Vancouver). She was the second of four children (Joan; Bill & Janet) born to Peg & Ray Mason.

While attending OTHS, she met on her 16th birthday, then dated & after graduating university (UWO – BA Arts '75 & Queen's – B. Education '76), married her husband for 45 years John Fraser.

Barb was the very proud mother of two wonderful daughters: Susan (Derek) Allen and Alison (Jamie) Cobban. She was also the doting grandmother nicknamed "Babs" who taught the love of reading and arts/crafts to three cherished grandchildren: Paige Allen; and Owen & Drew Cobban.

After raising both daughters to school age, Barb returned to the teaching profession initially at Tender Years Nursery School and then as an elementary school teacher at Owenwood PS and later as Librarian at Queenston Drive PS (all in Mississauga). She took early retirement in March 2015.

Just like her mother, Barb volunteered by canvassing yearly for Canadian Cancer Society. As well as a proud member of the Maycourt Club, Oakville, she bi-weekly volunteered at the 'Nearly New' shop on Kerr St.

Barb also cherished original & everlasting friendships dating back to Grade 3 in Brantwood PS. She was a trustworthy, loyal, and long-lasting friend through & through.

Cremation has taken place & a private family internment is to be scheduled.

You are invited to a Celebration of Barb's Life on Sunday December 10, 2023 at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block East of Kerr Street) from 5 pm – 8 pm.
