HOLLAND,Arthur
(May 27 1926 to December 11 2015)
It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Arthur
Holland. Arthur died peacefully in his ninetieth year in Oakville, Ontario,Canada. Left to mourn his loss are his children John (Marni) of Vancouver, BC (Michelle and Adrienne), Helen (Dave) of Salt Spring Island BC (Camille, Kieran and Zoe) and Tim (Alison) of Worthing, UK (Annabelle, Elliott, Harry and Edward). Dad was born and raised in Padiham, Northern England, a place he left at 19 but rediscovered and celebrated over the last 25 years. That interest involved various visits, family connections, exploration, walks in his favourite bluebell woods and the complete refurbishment of his childhood home, Colliers Cottage which transformed a modest Victorian workers house into a destination cottage that travellers from around the world experienced and enjoyed. After the Second World War Dad began work as an Electrical Engineering apprentice in Rugby, Warwickshire. He gained an interest in music, language and of course applied science at that time. Several career- based moves later via Malvern, Glasgow, Halifax (Nova Scotia), Ottawa, Manchester, Redcar and Worthing he settled in Oakville Ontario in 1981. During his varied career he worked as a college lecturer, an electrical engineer in nuclear power and a "technical everyman" in process controls. His long career with Eurotherm specializing in process instrumentation spanned 25 years and accolades across the industry. He wrote and published a textbook in the 1950's. Whether in work, family or his various fraternal organizations, Dad always enjoyed and celebrated the company of others. His curiosity, encyclopaedic knowledge, openness, kindness and humility won him many friends across the world. He was a man that enjoyed simple pleasures; a walk, the sound of children playing, meeting a dog, listening to music and playing from his vast repertoire on the harmonica. Special thanks to the staff at Oakville Hospital, Ian Anderson House and to Margaret, Heather, Chrissy and Colin for their sensitive and compassionate care over the last two years. You were all cherished companions and friends. There will be a Celebration of Life event for Dad's many friends in Oakville in January 2016. Location and time of Memorial Service January 11, 1330-1630 at Harbour Banquet Centre, 2340 Ontario Street, Oakville. In lieu of flowers a contribution to one of the charities below would be valued and appreciated.
