IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arlene
Dim
January 23, 2026
Arlene Dim, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 23, 2026. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Dim (2006), with whom she shared a 42 year marriage.
Arlene is deeply missed by her two children, David (Linda) and Katrina, as well as her three cherished grandchildren: Jordan (Alex), Nicole (Delante), and Sam. She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters Carolyn (Terry) and Gayle (John), and by her nieces and nephews — Flicia, Bryan, Lawrence, and Claire — all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Arlene graduated from Assumption University (now the University of Windsor) with a degree in Mathematics. She began her teaching career in Harrow and later in Toronto, before marrying and settling in Oakville in 1964. For many years she served as a dedicated supply teacher with the Halton District Catholic School Board, remembered for her patience, kindness, and quiet determination.
Arlene lived a life rich with curiosity, connection, and community involvement. She contributed actively to the Civitan Club, served as a Girl Guides of Canada leader, supported the Red Cross Creations group, and participated in her beloved book club for over 40 years. She was also known for embracing every “fitness opportunity” she could find — walking, exercise classes, community events — always keeping herself engaged and moving.
A passionate traveler, Arlene explored many islands of the Caribbean, ventured through Eastern and Western Europe including Iceland, spent some time in Western Asia, journeyed across Australia and New Zealand, and traveled extensively throughout Canada, her favourite destination.
When Arlene suffered a massive stroke in 2017,she responded with determination to walk, talk, and use her right arm that amazed her therapists and everyone around her. From that time forward, she lived first at Chartwell and more recently at Sunrise Oakville, where she received compassionate and attentive care. The family wishes to express profound gratitude to the staff who supported her with dignity and kindness throughout these years.
Arlene was a strong, determined woman—graceful in adversity, gentle in spirit, and steadfast in her love for her family. She continued to face life with resilience and optimism, no matter what it brought her.
In accordance with Arlene’s wishes, and due to the winter weather, a simple celebration of life will be held privately with immediate family at a later date.
Her family invites all who knew Arlene to remember her in their own way — perhaps with a book in hand, a walk outdoors, or by embracing curiosity and kindness, just as she did throughout her life.
If you are inclined to make a donation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
