Obituary

Antonio Ricci, of Oakville Ontario was called by the Lord on November 27, 2021 at the age of 90. Antonio passed away peacefully with his devoted and caring wife Rosina by his side at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Antonio was born in Civitanova del Sannio, Italy on September 21, 1931.

Antonio is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 61 years, Rosina (nee Mariani). They were married on November 5, 1960, before Rosina travelled from Castelverino, Italy to start their lives together in Canada. Antonio is survived by his two sons Peter (Teresa), Vincent (Angela), and grandchildren Daniel (Holli), Alyssa, Jonathan and Kira and predeceased by parents Pietro and Vincenza (nee Padula) Ricci. Antonio was the eldest of his siblings and leaves behind his sisters Concetta (late Giovanni), Paolina (late Antonio), Felicetta (Nino), and Teresa (Joe), his brother Joe (Cristina), and many nieces and nephews.

Antonio was a very kind, caring, unselfish and a modest person as well as an amazing, loving husband, father, and provider for his family. He immigrated to Canada in 1950, at the age of 18, to be reunited with his father Pietro, who had already become a Canadian Citizen while working on the Canadian railroads.

Antonio arrived with nothing but a dream to work hard in order to bring the rest of the family to join him and his father in Canada.  He took on as many jobs as possible to learn about the trades such as painting and tiling. Antonio combined his ultimate work ethic, along with his entrepreneurial wisdom, to launch a paint supply store on Kerr Street in 1962. With long hours of working both on job sites and in the store, the business continued to grow and later moved over to Speers Road. The combined leadership of Antonio and his sons continued to evolve the business into the present-day Speers Flooring.

Antonio was known by most people for being quiet and very reserved. Silently, he was always watchful while listening to every conversation and being protective over all his family and friends as they meant everything to him. He was a very generous and giving person that preferred to use his successes to help with the needs of family, friends, Church, Hospital, and his community. Antonio enjoyed life in many ways. He spent hours curating a meticulous garden of vegetables, as well as playing cards with his family and friends, bowling with his Italian Club friends, and most importantly, visiting and spending as much time as possible with his siblings in Toronto.

Although Antonio is no longer with us, and we will miss him terribly, he has left us with many fond memories, and we truly know and believe that he is still watching over us.
