Obituary

Tony was a caring husband, father, "papa", brother, and friend.  It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Tony on February 27, 2021, at the age of 82, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honour his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Born in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya, he graduated as a Pharmacist.  He left the Philippines and immigrated to the U.S. to work as a Medical Laboratory Technician.  Tony then moved to Canada and worked at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for over 3 decades and maintained his friendships long after retirement.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Tony.  He loved to entertain his family and friends in his beautiful and meticulously cared for gardens.  He also entertained everywhere by playing the piano and singing.  Always the host, nothing was too much trouble – making sho mei, banana fritters and spring rolls on a moment's notice when company arrived.  Tony was known for his long, entertaining stories, which he loved to repeat often.  He was the type of man who made friends everywhere he went with his smiling face and kind heart.

Tony is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mabina; his son James, and wife Michelle and their children Erin, Benjamin and Leah; and his "sweetheart" daughter, Kim.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in Tony Mercado's to the Oakville Hospital Foundation.  The donations in his name will go to the Respiratory and Palliative units who did an amazing job with patients devastated by COVID and other respiratory ailments.  The Foundation helps to ensure that they have all of the facilities to make patient's and families' stays in these units as best as possible as they did with our father during this difficult time.
