Antonie (Anton/Tony) Hermanus Pijper, 85, passed away peacefully Friday 19 December 2014 at the Ian Anderson House in Oakville. He leaves his loving wife of 60 years, Maria (Kop) Pijper; his sons David Pijper and Robert Pijper (Margaret); his daughter Marguerite Plaatjes (Ernest); his eight grandchildren Mark (Shantel), Lauren, Timothy, Stephen, Christopher, Allison, Sean (Skye), and Meaghan, and his great-grandson Haiden. Predeceased by his sons baby John Peter and Thomas Anthony, and his daughter-in-law Patricia.
We remember fondly and celebrate the long and productive life of this gentle, wise, and christian man. Born 14 February 1929 into a large family on a cold day in Holland. Never letting a permanent limp due to a childhood injury slow him down, he trained as an instrument maker, married his darling Rie in 1954, and then emigrated to Canada and worked hard at a long and successful career at Univac as a computer technician in Ottawa and then Mississauga.
Known by many as "Mr. Fixit", who could repair almost anything, from a car to a clock. A man of wisdom and intelligence and meticulous attention to detail, and a source of sound advice whether in church or as a father or friend.
A generous man who loved to smile and laugh, with talents and gifts too many to count: fisherman, craftsman, photographer, traveller, sailor, reader, appreciator of good music, teacher, mentor, and friend.
We will miss you Anton, even as we celebrate your life as a "good and faithful servant" and rejoice in the knowledge of your new and eternal life in paradise: no more limping now.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider supporting the wonderful work of the people at the "Ian Anderson House" with a donation: http://www.ianandersonhouse.com/donate.html.
