Obituary

Anthony John Last

At the age of 95, Anthony "Tony" John Last passed away peacefully on August 29, 2023. He had the love of his family surrounding him.

Tony was Born in Croydon, England, in 1928 to Lionel and Clara. After serving in the RAF, and completing his studies in Metallurgical Engineering, Tony decided to travel. Swept up in the company of other intrepid, young people, he soon found himself in Canada where he met and married his wife of almost 60 years, Ann Last. (Ne Weeks)

A widow, since 2018, Tony is also predeceased by his wonderful son, Christopher Last.

Tony will be remembered with much love and sweet smiles by his children Andrew,(Deanna) and Jennifer. Tony's grandchildren, Kate, (Mark), Kyle, Abbey, Francesca, Noah, and Isobel will miss him dearly.

Tony's love of sports, saw him as an Olympic torch bearer as well as a speedy asset to his rugby teams. Tony enjoyed being a member of the Wanderer's rugby club, serving as both secretary and its president.

Tony's keen mind and curiosity led to more than 20 patents that exist in his name. He created the 'Lastrap' to alleviate the pain of "tennis elbow" both for himself and for others who suffered from it. Tony was adept but humble as both an inventor and as an artist.

Tony's life was full of dogs. He adored his canine companions. Tony and Ann took great pleasure grooming and showing Kerry Blue Terriers for many years. Many of his paintings, drawings, sculptures and carvings were of dogs. Tony loved Art and will be well remembered by the Oakville Art Society as its founder and as a Master wood carver and teacher.

Tony took great pleasure as a member of 'Companions of the Quaich', where he enjoyed many a sip of single malt whiskey with friends. In the spirit of enjoying laughter and connecting with others, Tony was also a Master Joke teller.

A big thank you to Dr. David McConachie and his team at the OTMH Heart Function Clinic for their respect and special care over the last number of years.

Many thanks to pharmacist Marie-Claire and Ramy Massoud at Bronte Centre Pharmacy for going above and beyond for Tony.

Also a special thank you to the nurses on 7 South (OTMH) where, during his recent stay, their care and compassion were appreciated.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be welcome.

A celebration of life to be held in the coming months.
