Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Tony Bertrand, on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, at the age of 76.

Born December 7, 1948, in Montreal, Quebec, Tony grew up in the town of Mont Royal. Throughout his life, he was known for his engaging personality and dedication to his family and community. He attended Concordia University (formerly Loyola College), where he met his future wife, Mary. Their journey together began in Montreal, leading them to an apartment in Chateauguay, Quebec, then Pierrefonds, Quebec as they started their family, before settling in the Bronte neighborhood of Oakville, Ontario and then later Glen Abbey.

Family was at the heart of Tony's life. He is survived by his older son, Tony Jr., along with his long-time partner, Lindsay Coulson; his younger son, Peter; Peter's children, Adelaide and Harvey, from his former marriage to Nadine Zyma; and Peter's partner, Alana Look-Foe, along with her children, Scarlett and Natalia. Tony also leaves behind many friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.

His professional career spanned many years, beginning with Sunlife Financial's department of Mortgage Accounting in downtown Toronto, moving on to Investors Group as a Financial Advisor, and finally serving as an Advisor and Branch Manager at The Gryphin Advantage and WorldSource Financial until his retirement.

Tony's personality was marked by his talkative nature and his deep involvement in his grandchildren's lives. His passions included reading, volunteering, and attending extracurricular activities involving Adelaide and Harvey. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree and his parish, St. Matthew's in Oakville, where he served as an usher and finance committee member. He attended meetings and volunteered at many events for these groups.

A memorable highlight of Tony's life was his early hockey career in Montreal, where he played junior hockey for Mont Royal, distinguished as a top scorer and MVP. He was invited to try out for the Montreal Canadiens NHL team but regretfully declined. He also coached his son Tony's Oakville rep soccer team and both sons' hockey teams, celebrating a championship title the year in which both his sons played together under his coaching.
