It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of Ann Borejko (nee Pelepchuk), who passed away peacefully at the age of 105 on October 12, 2026, at Hennick Humber Hospital in North York, Ontario.
Anne was born on August 7, 1921, to Wasyl & Josephine Pelepchuk, hardworking pioneers in the Pine River district of Manitoba. She was the middle daughter in a family of six children, three girls and three boys. Her father was unable to register her birth on her actual birth date. He registered her birth on August 25th, which became her official birthday. Our family always celebrated both of those special days with our mother.
In her early 20’s, Anne moved to Winnipeg where she found work at the Hotel Fort Garry. While visiting her aunt in Northern Ontario, Anne met Ivan Borejko, who had recently arrived in Canada from Ukraine. They were married on September 3, 1949, in Brantford, Ontario, where their two daughters, Christine and Donna, were born. After living in Brantford for several years, Ivan and Anne purchased a home in Oakville, allowing Ivan to be closer to his employment. While living in Brantford and Oakville, Anne worked at various restaurants while nurturing her family.
Anne had always been physically active. She played baseball with her brother Michael and the other boys in town, fondly recalling these fun times. In later years, she enjoyed gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, baking, ballroom dancing, and travelling. Anne lived in her own home until her early 90's, then moved to the Ivan Franko Retirement Home in Mississauga and eventually to the Ukrainian Canadian Care Center in Etobicoke.
Anne & Ivan were active members of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Oakville. They were one of the original members of the church when it was first established on Maple Grove Road and supported building of the new Church in its current location on Trafalgar and River Oaks Blvd.
Anne reposed peacefully on October 12, 2026, at the age of 105. She was predeceased by her husband Ivan in 2006; her parents Wasyl & Josephine Pelepchuk; and her siblings Steve, Jean, Michael, Peter, and Mary.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved daughters and their families: Christine and her husband Ted, Sparta, NJ and their daughter Jessica, Boston, MA; Dobrodijka Donna and her husband Taras (Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne), Calgary, AB and their son Iakovos (Grand Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne), Istanbul, Turkey; and numerous nieces and nephews with their extended families in Canada, USA and Ukraine.
Heartfelt thanks to all staff at the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre in Etobicoke and the Hennick Humber Hospital in North York for the care and compassion shown to Anne and her family during her final days.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 300 River Oaks Boulevard, Oakville at 10:30 am. Interment to follow at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery, Oakville.
If desired, donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church or the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre (St. Demetrius) in Etobicoke.
