Surrounded by the love of her family, Anna passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026 at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital at the age of 88. Her cancer diagnosis came swiftly and without warning, but throughout her life Anna had always shown the strength, courage and determination to face whatever life placed in her path.
Anna was born on March 25, 1938, in the village of Iławcze, in the Tarnopol region of Poland. The area became part of Soviet Ukraine in 1939 and is now part of independent Ukraine. She was the daughter of Mikail Kaldus and Tekla Majczos. Tragically, Anna lost both of her parents and was orphaned at just six years old. This early loss marked the beginning of a childhood shaped by solitude and hardship, but it also helped forge the remarkable strength and determination that would define her throughout her life.
Despite such a difficult beginning, Anna went on to build a life filled with love, family and devotion. She was the beloved wife of Moises for 65 years, a cherished mother to Lucy (Manny) and John, and a much-loved Baba to her grand dog, Willy.
In 1959, Anna came to Canada, first settling in Windsor and later making her home in Oakville. Like so many immigrants of her generation, she worked hard to build a life in her new country. She worked on farms harvesting tobacco and picking seasonal fruits and vegetables. When her children came along, Anna devoted herself to her family, becoming a full-time homemaker, mother, gardener and the heart of her home.
Anna was a woman of many talents, most of them self-taught. She loved cross-stitch, needlework and flower arranging, and she had a natural gift for making beautiful things. She took great pride in decorating her home, both inside and out, changing it with the seasons and putting her heart and soul into every detail.
Anna loved her garden and took great pride in keeping it beautiful. She had a way of making everything look just right. Every blade of grass stood tall, every flower bed was carefully tended, and not a leaf or fallen petal was left unnoticed. Her garden was one of the places where Anna’s love, patience and attention to detail could be seen in everything she touched.
Anna also had a remarkable gift for languages. She spoke five languages—Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, Portuguese and English—and she used that gift to help many people in the Oakville community.
Animals held a very special place in Anna’s heart. Her beloved pets were her constant companions, and the neighbourhood dogs seemed to know exactly where to stop when they were looking for a treat. Anna never needed much encouragement to welcome a four-legged visitor to her door.
Anna will be deeply missed by her extended family and close friends in Canada, Poland and Ukraine. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories, a home and garden filled with her touch, and a family who will carry her love and the lessons she taught us forever.
Mom, you lived a life that was not always easy, but you made it beautiful.
You were strong. You were determined. You were one of a kind.
And you were loved.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital for the care, kindness and compassion shown to Mom and our family during her final days.
In keeping with Anna’s love and compassion for animals, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a local animal shelter in her honour.
Visitation will be held on Friday October 9, 2026 at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West (one block East of Kerr Street), Oakville from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday October 10, 2026 at Saint Matthew Roman Catholic Parish, 1150 Monk's Passage, Oakville at 11 am. Interment St. Jude's Cemetery.
