IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann
Shields
January 29, 1931 – August 28, 2022
Flora "Ann" Shields passed away on Aug 28, 2022 with her family by her side.
Ann lived a long and full life. Loving wife to Lyall for 43 years (deceased), mother of Linda and Jimmy (deceased), grandmother to Daniel and Sharon, great-grandmother to Bradley, Lauryn, Bryden Ann and Emmett Lyall, and aunt to Barbara and Michael (deceased). Ann was also pre-deceased by her parents, Marjorie and Frank Barnes and sister, Sheila.
Sadly, her son, Jimmy, needed to be cared for in a group home due to a developmental disability until his death in January 2022, but was always in Ann's thoughts and prayers.
Ann took great pride and joy from her family, and always delighted in the children in her life. She at times, did celebrate her inner child as her collection of stuffed toys attests. She most enjoyed keeping a tidy and welcoming home, where she hosted many holiday celebrations and countless visits from her family over many years.
In their younger years, she and Lyall loved to travel to sunny destinations. They particularly enjoyed their condo in Fort Lauderdale. They, often, sometimes accompanied by Linda, went to Fallsview Casino, in Niagara Falls.
Ann and Lyall would make yearly batches of their canned chilli when they lived in Etobicoke. Ann also loved baking and knitting and gifted her hand-knit blankets and dish cloths to family and local charities.
She believed in seeing the good in people and was very forgiving - values she passed along to her family.
A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday September 17, 2022 at 2:30pm at York Cemetery, 160 Beecroft Rd, North York. Visitors may check in at the Cemetery Visitor Center to confirm service location.
