IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Andre (Andries
N.) Wolder
November 2, 1946 – September 9, 2022
Andre passed away peacefully on Friday September 9 th at Post Inn Village …his home for nearly the past 7 years. He was in his 76 th year.
Andre was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1946 and immigrated to Canada in November of 1952, arriving on his 6 th birthday. The family eventually settled in Strathroy, Ontario.
Andre attended Durham Collegiate High School in Durham. In his Grade 13 year, the school basketball team (for which Andre played guard) went to the Provincial finals. He was among a select group of winners of a University of Waterloo math contest, and received a scholarship to the University. Andre enrolled in the Co-op Applied Math program, enabling him to experience several work terms with Dunlop and also one as a high school math teacher (late 1960's).
His professional career began in the computer programming genre and moved into computer sales soon after joining Hewlett-Packard in 1972, where he had an almost 20 year tenure. His varied positions included a 7 year stint in Winnipeg as joint Branch Manager/Computer Manager, followed by a return to Toronto as head of HR briefly and then head of the Medical Products group. His final position, before his health- related early retirement, was as a General Manager of a tax consulting company. In 1994, Andre was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's Disease and retired in 2001.
Always positive, he joined the Senior's Centre and enjoyed several years playing cards…Canasta and Bridge, as well as on-line bridge, church and couple's bridge. Board games too were always a favourite.
For a few years, he was able to enjoy weekly cycling on his special recumbent bike, with the help of a good friend.
Sports had always been a big part of Andre's life; participating/playing baseball, hockey and basketball in his youth and enjoying competitive curling and coaching baseball before children arrived. Later golf and attending 'kids hockey games' became the preferred sports.
Andre was thoughtful, caring, insightful, always seeking to find the good in people or life. He had an analytical mind, yet could approach challenges with patience. Best of all, he was fun to be with as most friends and family who knew him would agree. Sadly, PD slowly took away some of those lovely traits, but gratefully, not all.
Andre is survived by Diane, his wife of 50 years, his sons Alex (Kim), and Jeff (Renee), his special grandchildren Jack and Maddy, brothers Tom (Marilyn) and Theo (Betty-Ann) and brother-in-law Dennis (Linda) along with many fond nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents, Theophil H. Wolder and Sophia M. (nee Degenaars) Wolder predeceased him.
Sincere thanks to all staff at Post Inn Village (especially 3 rd floor Spruce) and Dr. Ian MacDougall for their wonderful care.
Visitation will be held on Saturday October 22, 2022, at 1 p.m. with a Funeral Service to follow at 2 p.m. at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block East of Kerr Street).
In Memoriam donations to the Parkinson's Society Canada , the Humane Society or a charity of your choice, with thanks.
