Obituary

Passed away peacefully in his 95th year at the Post Inn Village Nursing Home, in Oakville, January 29, 2009. Alvin was the beloved father of daughter, Arlene Duncan, grandfather of Matthew & Yuri Koller, beloved brother of Urban & Grace, and surviving sisters Dorothy, Marian & Jean. He is sadly missed by his niece, Lorraine, extended family & friends. A decorated veteran of World War II, serving in the RCAF, Alvin was a lifelong resident of Oakville, whose family history traced directly back to the Underground Railroad. An avid historian, he was well known for his presentations to school classes on the subject of the Underground Railroad and as a member of the Oakville Historical Society & Oakville Black History Society and shared the results of his extensive research with the Oakville Museum. Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road W. Oakville, on Thursday February 5, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday February 6, 2009. Interment at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery, 1149 Dundas St. W., Oakville. Those who wish may make memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
