Obituary

Alpha was born in Hensall, ON and lived all of her unmarried life in Zurich, ON. Alpha is predeceased by her parents Cealiea and Thomas Meyers and her older sisters Grace Knoll and Doris Hope.

Family was everything to Mom. She leaves behind two children, Suzanne Burns (Greg), and Ted Brown (Marie). Her greatest joy was her role of "Wife" to 5 grandchildren: Christopher Burns (Susan), Meredith Stratton (Ken), Ashley Burns, Duncan Brown (Jackie), and Andrew Brown (Virginia). Then she experienced the thrill of great-grandchildren: Emily and Carson Burns, Katherine, Jeffrey and Rebecca Stratton, and Ernest, Andrew and Oliver Brown. Every visit we shared the news of each of their lives and she regretted not having more time with them. It was never okay to miss a family event. Her unconditional love of family extended to her nieces and nephews.

Mom fulfilled her life-long dream of becoming a nurse when she graduated from the Stratford School of Nursing on June 6, 1945. In the early months of 1946, she began working at Christie Street Military Hospital in Toronto. She met the great love of her life, Ernest Brown (deceased 2011) – one of her patients. Always cognizant of the "right" way of doing things, she would not even consider him until he was discharged. They married September 8, 1947 and enjoyed 64 years together of golfing, travelling and a decade long pursuit of the perfect cottage. Mom also filled her life with music, bridge, and carrying on the tradition of family recipes, including Grannie salad, pickles, chili sauce, strawberry jam, and everyone's favourite banana cake.

Mom was the heart and soul of our family. She led by example – strength, great faith, and dedication to those she loved.

We will all miss her dearly and the memories she carried.
