Allan Edward
Deegan
Dec 8, 1937 — Sep 3, 2026
Allan (Al) Deegan died peacefully on September 3, 2026 in Mississauga. Born in Winnipeg in 1937, he is survived by Lucille (Keough), his devoted wife of 62 years; daughter Judy; sons Paul (Rebecca Goldfarb) and Michael (Kristin); grandchildren Jennifer and Michael Gauthier, Jacob, Ellie, Patrick, and Caroline Deegan; his brother George (Pat); Lucille’s siblings Lee Lone, Paul (Vange), Linda Kliewer, and Cheryl Doig (Bob); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Alsie Deegan and his sister, Sister Shelagh Deegan RSCJ.
Educated by the Jesuits, he graduated from St. Paul’s High School and St. Paul’s College at the University of Manitoba. Following graduation, he became a Chartered Accountant, articling with Clarkson Gordon. Allan joined CN’s finance department in Winnipeg. CN sent him on a sabbatical at National Defence College in Kingston, and he was then transferred to Montreal. Through a variety of roles, he rose to the position of Senior Vice President, having responsibility for CN’s transportation activities in Eastern Canada and Grand Trunk Railway in the United States.
He loved to cook and hold court at the dining room table, sharing with his family and friends. He would always reminisce about the “Good Old Days” but would always note that we were currently living in great days because we were together.
We wish to extend sincere thanks to the staff at the Silverthorn Community who lovingly cared for Al.
In his memory, Al would want you to volunteer in your community, visit a friend, give a stranger a nod and a smile, raise a glass, skip a stone (something he loved teaching to each of his six grandchildren), and keep his memory as a blessing in your thoughts and prayers.
