Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father. He was a man who loved life, his wife and family, Knox Presbyterian Church, the Royal Canadian Legion, the Post Office (where he worked) and his numerous friends, neighbours and acquaintances he met along this journey called life. He was blessed with many friends and like all of us, for the most part, was thankful for all that he had. He is survived by his son Alan and his wife Debbie and their daughter Jessica. He loved his time living on Devon Road, their condo on White Oaks Boulevard and at Del Manor. Someone once said "you can take the boy out of Oakville, but not Oakville out of the boy". Outside of his time in the service and the last 16 months of his life, he lived in Oakville all of his life. It was his hometown and he really never left it. Since May 2007, he lived in St. Catharines to be near his family. When Eveline, his wife of 57 plus years passed away in April 2008, he was one lost soul. Since then he has battled with kidney cancer and then last week, fell and broke his hip. It is never easy to say goodbye but we believe that in this case "absent from the body means present with the Lord" and he is reuniting with his wife. For that we are eternally grateful. Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd. West, Oakville, (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600) from 7-9 pm Thursday. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday September 5, 2008 at Knox Presbyterian Church, 89 Dunn Street, Oakville. Private family interment. For those who wish memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society 635 Fourth Line, Unit 51, Oakville, L6L 5W4 or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 114, 36 Upper Middle Road East, Oakville, L6H 7M1. In closing, thank you for reading this and paying tribute to Dad. This really means a lot to his family that you took some time out of your day to do this and think about a man who will be truly missed.
