It is with great sadness that the family of Albert Hornby announces his passing on August 4, 2022. Albert passed away peacefully at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in his 95 th year. He will be forever remembered by his son James David (Mary-Anne), his daughter Pamela (Marc), his grandchildren Jonathan, Corinne, Christopher (Amanda), Allison (Alex), and Sarah (Kyle), and great grandchildren Ethan, Nora and Alice. Albert was predeceased by his beloved wife Olive of 67 years. He will also be missed by his brother-in-law Ron and nieces Beverly, Karen, and Michelle and their families.
Albert was born in South Shields, England on October 29, 1927. He was predeceased by his mother Lillian Spence, his father James Hornby, and sisters Nellie and Belle. Albert and Olive immigrated to Canada in 1964. Albert brought with him a strong work ethic and spent his entire career in Canada with Westinghouse, ending as Plant Manager in Hamilton.
He and Olive enjoyed many happy years at their home in Port Charlotte Florida participating in all the events that made Maple Leaf Estates and Golf and Country Club their favourite winter retreat, including singing in the Maple Leaf choir. Albert and Olive were long standing members of Knox Presbyterian Church in Oakville and the Oakville Lawn Bowling Club. Albert was a member of the Claude M. Kent Masonic Lodge in Oakville and later became a Shriner.
Albert had a tremendous sense of humour and loved to reminisce about the past. He was a true gentleman and loved by all those who had the good fortune and pleasure of meeting him. He will be missed but not forgotten by his family and many friends.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Albert's life at 11a.m. on August 22 nd at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West in Oakville. The interment will take place following the service at 11:45 a.m. at St. Judes's Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home.
