Suddenly, on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the age of 82, after a long and healthy life. Beloved only child of George and Alice Howard of Caterham, Surrey, UK. After serving with the Royal Engineers in his early twenties, Alan emigrated to Canada, eventually settling in as a long time resident of Oakville.
A man of many passions, he enjoyed racing his Austin Healey in his younger years with the Northern Alberta Sportscar Club in Edmonton, where he was to meet his wife of 52 years and fellow racer, Gwen. Lifelong competitive aero-modeller, airplane enthusiast, history buff, and volunteer throughout his retirement at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton.
His wry British humour and knowledge of all things historical and mechanical will be sadly missed.
Husband to Gwen, dear Dad to Jennifer (Dennis) and Jonathan (Susan), beloved "Grumpa" to Aleks, Luka, Rogan and Marin, and patriarch to a tightly knit extended family.
A private family service and cremation was held.
An informal memorial and celebration of Alan's life will be planned in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. www.warplane.com
